Landed in Chochi this morning and it feels like another country. Enough so, that for the first few hours I kept thinking I was already in Sri Lanka. Here are the main first impressions:
It’s green. Very green and much more tropical. The air is soft and humid. The ever-present dust of Northern India has been replaced by a soft, gentle rain. There was severe flooding in the area three months ago and a cyclone is stirring up trouble on he other side of the south but it was pleasant here.
Most vehicles here appear to be equipped with signal lights rather than horns. Signal lights being more precise indicators of intention, we’ve seen many without a single dent.
... Update: I’m in my room as a fierce wind howls outside and I can see the rain pelting down. The electricity has gone out a couple of times but the hotel has a generator. I’m in my room because I’m sick from the the Malarone. I’ve had trouble with it before and now I’ve decided to discontinue it; none of the Brits are taking it because the risk is considered none to low by their health services. I’m throwing in my lot with them, hopefully to less ill effect than taking the medication.
